Q: What is your name?

おなまえは？

A: Sakuya Higuchi

樋口 咲耶です。

Q: How old are you?

おいくつですか？

A: 34 years old in September.

9月で34歳になります。

Q: Where are you from?

出身地はどこですか？

A: Ibaraki, Northeast of Tokyo.

茨城県です。

Q: Where do you live now?

どちらにお住まいですか？

A: Tokyo

東京都です。

Q: When did you first start illustrating?

いつからイラストレーターとして活動を始めましたか？

A: I worked as a stationery designer, became a freelance illustrator around 2011.

ステーショナリーデザイナーとして勤務後、フリーで活動するようになったのは2011年頃です。

Q: What’s your earliest memory of drawing?

絵を描いた最初の記憶は何ですか？

A: My first memory of drawing was when I was 3 years old I drew a face on the road in front of my house.

3歳頃、家の前にある道に人の顔を描いたのが最初の記憶です。

Q: How would you describe your style?

イラストのスタイルについて教えてください。

A: I express myself simply with few colours but I put in a lot of effort. I also add humour sometimes.

少ない色でシンプルに表現するけれど、丹精込める。時々ユーモアを入れる。

Q: What is your own rule?

良い仕事をするためのマイルールは？

A: I won’t draw after 8 pm. I try to spend my time on other things.

夜8時以降は絵を描きません。他のことに時間を使うようにしています。

Q: How does your culture influence your style?

作品が日本のカルチャーに影響を受けていると思いますか？

A: I don’t know where it is affected but I leave a blank space and make people imagine what you cannot see that perhaps something to do with Japanese.

どこに影響を受けているのか、私自身では分かりませんが、見えないものを想像させたり、余白で表現するという点は、日本的なのかもしれません。

Q: Where do you draw inspiration from?

インスピレーションはどこから湧いてきますか？

A: Mostly from everyday life. When I’m eating, going for a walk, looking up something, and after watching TV or movies etc.

日常生活の中からがほとんどです。食事や散歩している時、何か調べている時、テレビや映画を観た後など。

Q: Could you share three artists we should check out.

注目すべき3人のアーティストを教えてください。

A: There are many artists I love but if I have to name three, Takeo Takei, Jan Švankmajer and Hiroshige Utagawa.

敬愛しているアーティストは沢山いるのですが、3名あげるなら、武井武雄、ヤン・シュヴァンクマイエル、歌川広重です。

Q: What has been your favourite illustration so far that has appeared in Lunch Lady?

これまで「LUNCH LADY」に掲載されたイラストの中でお気に入りは?

A: I like the one kicking the ball over the chamomile flower.
