DIY skin + hair care: easy recipes for you to try
Did you know you can make your own DIY skin and hair care products from the natural ingredients sitting in your kitchen?
Here is a quick run down of all the natural products you probably already have at home and what they can do for your skin & hair.
Avocado contains natural oils that increase collagen.
Honey is full of antioxidants. It soothes and moisturises and has antibacterial properties.
Yoghurt has natural alpha hydroxyl acid, which helps smooth and exfoliate the skin.
Turmeric is full of vitamin C which brightens the skin.
Coffee contains antioxidants and caffeine, which reduce inflammation.
Almonds are a great source of protein and essential element of hair structure.
Eggs are power-packed with proteins, minerals and B-complex vitamins to nourish and strengthen hair.
Bananas are rick in potassium and vitamins E and C with moisturising properties.
Coconut oil’s lauric acid penetrates the hair shaft to nourish and protect.
NATURAL MASKS FOR YOUR HAIR
Mask 1. Whisk together 4 egg whites, 5 tablespoons of almond milk and 2 tablespoons of coconut oil.
Mask 2. Whisk 1 egg with 1 tablespoon of honey and 2 tablespoons of Greek yoghurt.
Mask 3. Mash 1 ripe banana with 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 tablespoon of almond or olive oil.
Mix your mask and then apply to damp hair. Cover with a shower cap and let it sit for 30-60 minutes. Shampoo and condition as usual.
NATURAL MASKS FOR YOUR FACE
Mask 1. Mash 1/4 of an avocado and mix with 2 teaspoons of honey and 2 teaspoons of Greek yoghurt.
Mask 2. Mash 1/2 a banana and mix with 1 tablespoon of orange juice and 1 tablespoon of honey.
Mask 3. Mix 1 tablespoon of instant or ground coffee, 1 tablespoon of Greek yoghurt and 1 teaspoon of powered turmeric.
Once you’ve made up the mixture, apply the mask to your face and leave it on for approximately 20 minutes before removing with a face washer or in the shower. Follow with moisturiser.
