The Queen Victoria Women’s Centre Shop is a feminist makers store showcasing unique, locally sourced, ethically made gifts, fashion, art, homewares, books and treats. 100% of their profit goes back into the Queen Victoria Women’s Centre and supporting Victorian Women through their creative and community projects.
Here’s a spotlight on six of their makers (but there are loads more to see on their website)
high tees
Artist Jess McDonald hand draws portraits of some of Australia’s and NZ’s most beloved icons and heroes and then prints them on 100% organic cotton t-shirts. Jess also partnered with West Welcome Wagon, an Asylum Seeker organisation to create Kindness Tees.
fabric drawer
Beck is a surface designer and maker who has a love of creating patterns. Her patterns appear on everything from purses, dishcloths, glasses cases, and fabric badges to washi tape and notebooks.
candy ng
Candy Ng is an Illustrator designer of many cute things including pins,
stickers, prints and socks. Her work is filled with inspiration from everyday life and good thoughts with an aim to create a conversation and to brighten up someone’s day.
natsui
Underpinned by a strong pop-art aesthetic, Nathalia Suizu is influenced by Latin American folk art, psychedelia, retro fashion and design, traditional tattoo culture and religious iconography. The Melbourne based artist strives to live and paint by the mantra “follow your bliss”.
juz savage
Juz learnt to sew her own clothing because she couldn’t find sustainable, Australian-made plus size options that made her heart happy. Her new hobby has given her an appreciation for the amount of fabric waste that is being created by the fashion industry. Her latest products include reusable face wipes and snack vintage floral pouches.
shuh lee
Shuh’s work is about playing with a mixture of art and craft and creating usable, wearable and FUN objects for everyday life. Think tees, jumpers, earrings, necklaces, socks and pillows that will bring colour and joy to your days.
